Nordic Talc and Kajave agreed on planning of a new power line connection

Nordic Talc Oy and Kajave Oy have agreed to start planning a new power line connection. The new power line connection enables the power needed for Nordic Talc’s production. At the same time, it strengthens Ylä-Kainuu’s distribution network and also enables the development of other business activities, tourism and green transition projects in the area. The preliminary planning of the connection has been done and during the spring and next summer we will continue nature and other surveys in the area of the planned power line alignment. After these assessments are completed next autumn, it will be decided to start the actual general planning. The alignment of the new connection starts from the Kurimo power station to the north and its length is about 60 km.

Nordic Talc plans to start production of carbon-neutral talc in Suomussalmi. The CEO of Nordic Talc, Erkki Kuronen, says that in terms of this goal, it is of the utmost importance to ensure sufficient and reliable energy availability, and the new power line connection serves this goal. Kajave’s CEO Timo Jutila states that as a local distribution network company, Kajave is developing Ylä-Kainuu’s electricity network so that, in addition to business activities, it also enables, for example, the needs of tourism in the Hossa region and the construction of an electric car charging network along the nationally important 5-way.
