Our talc project is progressing strongly – with responsibility and versatility

We have submitted the requested supplements to the environmental and water management permit application for the Suomussalmi talc project to the Regional State Administrative Agency

The project is advancing as planned across multiple fronts: permitting, technical design, by-product utilization, and sustainability goals are reinforcing one another and driving the project forward. We’ve continued active dialogue with potential customers and financiers – and received positive feedback on the project’s progress.

The environmental and water permit application for the Suomussalmi talc project was submitted to the Regional State Administrative Agency of Northern Finland on 9 May 2025.

Nordic Talc Oy organized a resident and stakeholder survey regarding the Suomussalmi talc utilization project. North Ostrobothnia’s Centre for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment has granted Nordic Talc Oy a company development grant from the EU regional and structural policy program “Innovation and skills in Finland 2021-2027” for the project “Improving the energy and material efficiency of the Suomussalmi talc project”.

Tulikivi Oyj’s subsidiary, Nordic Talc Oy, is investigating the commencement of talc production in the Kivikangas mining area within the Haaponen deposit, located in Suomussalmi.

Nordic Talc Oy has submitted the Environmental Impact Assessment report (EIA report) of the Suomussalmi talc reserves utilization project to the Centre for Economic Development, Transport, and the Environment of Kainuu (ELY center), which acts as the liaison authority, on June 27, 2024.

Nordic Talc Oy and Kajave Oy have agreed to start planning a new power line connection. The new power line connection enables the power needed for Nordic Talc’s production. At the same time, it strengthens Ylä-Kainuu’s distribution network and also enables the development of other business activities, tourism and green transition projects in the area.

In the project, both the suitability of the by-product of the talc project for further processing, as well as its product properties and utilization possibilities were investigated. The main goals of the project were achieved and, based on the results obtained, it is possible to choose possible methods and application areas suitable for further processing.
