By-product Assessment of the Suomussalmi talc project

North Ostrobothnia’s Centre for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment has granted Nordic Talc Oy a company development grant from the Just Transition Fund (JTF) for the by-product assessment of the Suomussalmi talc project.

The project assesses the utilization of a by-product of the Suomussalmi talc project. The aim is to improve the resource efficiency and profitability of the project by utilizing operational side streams while supporting national and EU-level objectives.

The project will be completed latest in April 2024.

Nordic Talc and Kajave agreed on planning of a new power line connection

Nordic Talc Oy and Kajave Oy have agreed to start planning a new power line connection. The new power line connection enables the power needed for Nordic Talc’s production. At the same time, it strengthens Ylä-Kainuu’s distribution network and also enables the development of other business activities, tourism and green transition projects in the area.

In the project, both the suitability of the by-product of the talc project for further processing, as well as its product properties and utilization possibilities were investigated. The main goals of the project were achieved and, based on the results obtained, it is possible to choose possible methods and application areas suitable for further processing.

The study supported by the ELY Centre promoted the talc project in Suomussalmi

Tulikivi Oyj has completed the project “Study on the geology and geotechnical engineering of the Haaponen deposit and the usability of the mineral for the manufacture of selected products on an industrial scale”, for which it has received a business development grant from the Centre for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment for Northern Ostrobothnia. The grant received has been very significant in moving the project forward.
